  • TLDR: Once a week until improvement is stabilized (usually about 4-6 weeks), then once every two weeks, and so on until we are at a maintenance level of once a month or season.

Long answer: Initially, you can expect to be coming in once a week for about 4-6 weeks if you have a specific issue that we are addressing.

This is because the energetic balances we achieve in a treatment slowly start slipping back into their original pattern immediately after you get off of the table. If you take too long between treatments, we will be starting at square one each time, with no actual progress. If you come in often enough, before the original pattern is reached again, we make incremental progress in teaching your body a new energetic pattern, until it finally adopts it as its own.

As improvements in your condition stabilize, we can reduce treatment frequency to once every two weeks, and further until you only come in once a month or once a season for maintenance treatments.

  • TLDR: I have very small needles so that, no, it won't hurt. If you want to feel the needles and the qì, I have larger ones just for you.

Long answer: For some, yes; for some, no. Honestly, it depends on how sensitive you are to the qì. I wouldn't say it "hurts," but any acupuncturist who says that most people "barely feel the needles" is probably giving you only a certain kind of treatment with limited benefits. Most people should experience sensations such as heat, heaviness, twitches, aching, tingling, pinprick, or pressure either at the point or in a corresponding area. These sensations are known as dé qì (得氣), or “obtaining the qi.” The classics in Chinese medicine say that if dé qì is not achieved, the treatment will be ineffective. However, if you are the type of person who is sensitive to needles and prefers minimal sensation, I have extra small needles that are "barely felt" to use as your body acclimates to acupuncture. :)

  • I do not accept insurance. However, most HSA and FSA plans cover acupuncture and only require an invoice for reimbursement.
